Introduction to Buddhism
One of our committee members, Pam Warner, recently delivered a six session, “Introduction to Buddhism Course”. The course was well attended with a good mix of participants with different levels of experience. Each session began with a guided meditation followed by a talk from Pam on the following topics:
Week 1: The Origins of Buddhism in Ancient India
Week 2: Life of the Buddha
Week 3: The Four Noble Truths
The Three Characteristics of Existence
Week 4: The Noble Eightfold Path
Week 5: Buddhist Practice and the role of the Sangha
Week 6: Is Buddhism a system of belief?
Feedback from participants new to meditation and Buddhism indicated that they felt the course gave them a very helpful and accessible way of finding out more about these topics in a friendly and open manner. Those who already had some experience benefitted from the course structure which enabled them to make links between different areas and topics.
All in all it was a very successful course and we are grateful to Pam for all of her hard work in creating it and for sharing her wide knowledge and experience with us.
